Wendy Weinberg Weil
Wendy began swimming competitively at age 7. At 15, she competed at the 1973 Maccabiah Games in Israel. She also competed in the 1977 Maccabiah Games. In those two competitions, she won 10 gold and five silver medals. The peak of Wendy’s career was the 1976 Olympics in which she won bronze in the 800-meter freestyle. She also won a gold medal in that same event in the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City. Wendy competed in the World University Games in Bulgaria in 1977, and at competitions in Australia, West Germany and France. She placed in every US National Championship between 1973 and 1977. Her specialties were freestyle and butterfly. Wendy received a BA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in PE/Exercise Physiology, an MA in Sports Medicine/Athletic training at Carolina, and a graduate certificate from Emory University in Physical Therapy.
