The late Harry Bassin is honored for his outstanding college sports career. Nominated to the Georgetown University Hall of Fame for baseball and basketball, Bassin is considered the greatest baseball player in Georgetown history. In each of his four seasons as a first baseman, Bassin batted over .500. At the same time, his athletic prowess catapulted Georgetown’s basketball team into the national spotlight, with Bassin the leading scorer. Following graduation in 1938, Bassin played for six seasons in the New York Yankees’ minor league system.
