Mike Epstein was one of the great Jewish baseball players of the 1960 s and 1970s. He played for the Washington Senators for half of his career. In 1969, he hit · 30 home runs for the Senators, a team record for most home runs by a left-handed batter in one season. He also set a Major League record for the most put-outs by a first baseman in one game. Mike, nicknamed “Super Jew,” wore a black arm band at the end of the 1972 season in memory of the 11 Israelis who were slain at the Munich Olympics.
