Larry Rosen

Larry played football and ran varsity track & field at Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, Maryland and in 1975, set a USA Track & Field national record for his age group. Larry won five county shot put and discus championships and earned two second-place finishes. He also recorded four first-place state championships, as well as second, third and fourth-place finishes. He set the county indoor shot put meet record, the county discus meet record, and the state class 3A discus meet record. Larry’s best throws of 59’4″ for shot put and 179′ 1″ for discus still stand as Einstein’s school records. Larry also recorded second-place (discus) and fifth place (shot put) finishes in the Junior Olympic Nationals in 1976. In 1977, Larry was named to the All-Met Track Team in both shot put and discus. As a member of the 1981 Maccabiah team, he placed second in discus and fourth in shot put. Larry received a four-year athletic scholarship to the University of Tennessee (UT), where he was a member of the varsity track & field team. He placed in the SEC championships eight times and was a four-time varsity letter winner.  He set the UT school discus record in 1981. Some of Larry’s most outstanding accomplishments were his finishes at the Penn Relays, winning the Kentucky Relays (‘82) and West Coast Relays (‘82), and qualifying for three NCAA championship meets in the discus. His best collegiate throws were 59’0″ in the shot put in the 1982 outdoor SEC championships, which was his last collegiate competition, and193′ 1″ in the discus in 1981.
