Shapiro has spent more than 30 years working in the Washington Post’s sports department. In 1973, he began covering the Washington Redskins. He became a deputy sports editor in 1983, then returned to writing in 1991, covering pro football, golf and writing a sports broadcasting column. Shapiro has won numerous awards including several Associated Press Sports Editors and Newspaper Guild awards. He is the author of three books and is considered to be one of the most prolific and respected sports reporters throughout the country.
