Silverman was the all-time leading basketball scorer when he graduated from George Washington University in 1953. He was the first player in GWU history to score over 1 ,000 points and to score 30 points or more in a single game. He was captain of the team his junior and senior years and voted Most Valuable Player in 1952. He was on the All-Southern Conference team (when it was combined with the ACC.) Silverman was drafted by the Rochester Royals (NBA) which is now the Sacramento Kings. The army drafted him at the same time. Silverman was one of only 18 GWU basketball players ever to be drafted by the NBA. He is a member of the George Washington University Hall of Fame.
