STEVE RUBIN

A resident of Montgomery County, Maryland for over 40 years, Steve grew up in Brookline, MA, where he played three years of varsity basketball for Brookline High School. As a versatile player at 6’1″, Steve led his team in scoring and to two back-to-back Suburban League titles. As a senior captain, Steve led the league in scoring and accumulated an outstanding career total of 943 points. Had the three-point line been in effect he would have eclipsed the magical 1,000 point barrier. The highlight of his high school career came on a stormy night in Arlington, MA, when he scored a then school record of 41 points.

As a two-time Boston Globe All­-Scholastic player, Steve was named by Hall of Fame coach, Rollie Massimino to the All New England basketball team. The team competed in the 8th Annual Schoolboy Classic in Allentown, PA, which later become known as the McDonald’s Classic. Steve received numerous scholarship offers and chose to play at the University of Rhode Island for legendary coach Ernie Calverley. Upon Calverley’s departure, Steve continued under coaches Tom Carmody and Lou Campinelli, competing in the Yankee Conference, which would later become part of the Big East.
