From the Middle Bronze Age (around 1750 BCE) to the Iron Age (ninth century BCE), Hazor was the largest fortified city in the region and is today the largest archaeological site in northern Israel. In the Book of Joshua, Hazor is described as “the head of all those kingdoms”.

How did the Iron Age Israelites comprehend their relationship to the Canaanites who lived at the site before them? How did they relate to the devastating destruction at the site? How did they manipulate these events of destruction and occupation to fit to their political and ideological needs? We will talk about how people in the past remembered their own past and how they treated it.
