Bernard “Bunny” Citrenbaum
Citrenbaum began his athletic career playing basketball and running track and field at McFarland Junior High School. He held a record in the running broad jump that stood for several years. He became a multi-sport champion at Roosevelt High School and was voted UBest Male Athlete· by his 1944 graduating class. He briefly played varsity basketball for the American University before being drafted to serve in World War II. During military service he played on a basketball team in Germany which won the area championship and was invited to play in Paris for the European championship. After his military service, he received athletic scholarships in basketball and baseball to the George Washington University. Citrenbaum played semi-professional baseball in Georgia during the summer.
