George Garber was a six-foot forward who started every basketball game for George Washington University for three seasons from 1937-40. He was captain of the team in the 1939-40 season and earned All-District honors in 1939 and 1940. Prior to attending GWU, George was captain of the James Monroe High School team in New York City which won the City championship, and was named first team All-City in 1935 and 1936. After graduation from GWU, he captained the New York Ohrbachs team in AAU competition and led them to the national championship game. Upon returning to the DC area, George was a successful high school and college basketball coach and a college basketball official.
