Jonathan S. England
Although Jon England had never played lacrosse or soccer until he enrolled at Harvard, he made All-American in both sports. Jon was on the Varsity Lacrosse team (1933-35) and Varsity Soccer team (1932-34 ). After playing goal for both soccer and lacrosse as a sophomore, he had one of the hardest shots on the team and was converted to attack for his last two years. As Captain of the lacrosse team his senior year, he led Harvard to its first New England Championship in the sport. The summer following his senior year he played against Canada in Vancouver with the All-American Lacrosse team. When Jon was in his fifties, he and Bernie Koteen who had never played together won the men’s tennis doubles tournament at Woodmont Country Club beating players 30 years younger. Still competing at age 85, he won the Senior Men’s golf tournament at Woodmont.
