Steve Berkowitz
Steve Berkowitz attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1986, and worked for The Washington Post from 1986 to 2000. He began as a part-time news aide and served as a copy editor, reporter, night editor and assistant sports editor. His reporting beats included high schools, colleges, the Baltimore Orioles and the 1994 men’s World Cup soccer tournament.
With USA Today for the past 23 years, Steve began as a sports projects editor. He is currently a reporter with the department’s enterprise and investigations group. Much of his work centers around helping to construct, maintain and analyze annually-updated databases of college athletics compensation and finances that they began in 2006. They have provided the foundation for numerous award-winning stories and projects Steve and his colleagues have produced.
In addition, Steve covers various NCAA, federal and state legal and legislative issues, including Title IX. He has played soccer since second grade; when not injured, he still plays in a men’s over-50 league.
