Stuart Milner
Stuart Milner’s lacrosse career as a player and referee has spanned six decades. It began at Baltimore City College high school, where he was selected for honorable mention on the Baltimore Sun newspaper’s 1964 All-High School lacrosse team at the position of defense. He went on to play on the University of Maryland freshman men’s lacrosse team and subsequently in post-collegiate/club lacrosse in Maryland and Pittsburgh, PA.
From 1989-2024, Stu Milner served as a professional lacrosse referee at the middle school, high school (domestic and national), college, post-collegiate, club, and international adult levels.
Dr. Milner has mentored and trained young and upcoming high school officials throughout his career, and shaped their skills and character in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. He was an initial president and leader in the establishment of the former Potomac Lacrosse Officials Association, a professional organization serving Maryland, D.C. and Northern Virginia boys’ lacrosse, in the early 2000s.
Stu served as a referee in World Lacrosse international games, primarily in Israel and Australia. He officiated the Israel World Lacrosse men’s games from 2013-2016 in Israel and in the U.S. Since 2007, on a regular basis, he has officiated at the highest levels in the state of Victoria in Australia.
Dr. Milner is a research professor at the University of Maryland and a consultant to universities and government in Australia. He is married to Sara Portman Milner, who established the inclusive camp programs at Camp JCC in 1979.
